Hyperlocalism: the idea that we are part of a larger world that starts with our own community.
In today's environment we are always connected to each other, even around the world. We are truly citizens of earth. But first, we are citizens of our own communities and neighborhoods. And those neighborhoods are the elements that make up our city. The streets we grew up on, the places we enjoyed, the areas we want to share with others...but not too much! We are proud of our neighborhood and the people in it. We are proud of the mixture of our community.
How do we show that pride? How do we let people know where we came from, or the community we now live in, or the area we connect with?
Elements of My City was born of a passion for our own neighborhood and the realization that everyone has an area or community they love. And they are all the elements that make up the city we take pride in.
Renamed Hometown Elements to acknowledge our personal connection, we've produced stickers showing the neighborhoods closest to us. We plan to expand to other areas in the city and develop other products that show pride in our neighborhoods.
You can find our products online below or locally at Southern Crossing Antique Mall - at 2718 Park Street in Jacksonville. If anyone asks, it's in the Whiteway Building!
